A Poem About Ego

Suze Views | 0 comments

This is a short poem I wrote about a leaf I picked from a tree whilst walking in nature.

I stole a leaf
Because it looked like
Gold
I picked it's prickly dead
Body
From the tree
And held it gently in my
Hand
Feeling its spikes as it
Dug into my
Skin
And then I felt nothing but
Understanding
Because it wasn't mine to
Keep

This poem was written in response to listening to Oprah Winfrey's podcast with Eckhart Tolle in which Eckhart explains how to be mindful in nature. I picked the leaf and then realised that I had taken it for myself...my ego. I should have appreciated the leaf in its surroundings and left it for other people to enjoy.
